I've been

flying through nostalgia tonight. I write about time and memories a lot. I'm never sure if it's healthy but I'm not sure of much anymore.

I won't get into the emotions that nostalgia brings out in me, but I'm sure you've all felt it before. It's like real life magic. I never understood my obsession with it, but... man, I don't know. Magic.

Anyway, I found this post on a good friend's old Myspace blog. He was going through some shitty times back when we only cared about looking cool, music, and girls. He told me a year ago that it was the best advice he's ever gotten.

Looks like nostalgia hit me at the right time. More than anything, I needed to be reminded about what I used to believe in.

This is from 2006.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

you're one of my best friends, and i hope you take this in the right way. cuz i know you will.

dont keep yourself stuck in the past or bring it into the future. dont loath in what could happen or whats going to happen.

because its all about the ride. whats the use if you cant just sit back and ride the rollor coaster out. let the bad, scary, days come and youll be at the bottom of the hill. but the coaster always comes back up. its all about the ride bro.

and i'll ride it out with you forever.

Sorry, I've been involved.

Hey there. Here's an update on why I don't write as much anymore.

---I'm now on an Long-Form Improv team called Grandma Mojo's Moonshine Revival. We have shows every other Wednesday at Iowa State University. 10pm for $1.00. Come laugh at me being a douche bag.

---I'm the performing arts director for the Iowa State University Student Union Board. I get to do fun things revolving around music, film, pop culture, and everything in between.

---I start my internship with Microsoft tomorrow. Free stuff 2010.

---I'm currently producing, writing, directing, and acting in a TV show that me and a bunch of friends started called BUNCHA BUDDIES. We'll have a website up soon.

---I spend a lot of time staring at the paint falling apart on my wall.

---Here's a picture of me opening up for the Sklar Brothers, doing stand-up. They told me to move LA and pursue a career in the entertainment business. Goodbye Iowa.

Here's the Sklars, they're famous.

Here's me doin mah thing.

Here's the promo for the improv group I'm in.

In the name of the Father

There was a man from Nazareth whose memory they pervert.
They carved an idol from his bones to sell on mugs and shirts.
If he were to spring to life and see you bear his name,
he'd climb back up on that cross and hang his head in shame.
So climb back up on that cross and hang your head in shame,
one day he may come down in order to clear your name.
This is forever.

Say Anything.

Good bands and artists you all can listen to...

I saw the film Cyrus. It stars John C Riley and Jonah Hill. It's fantastic. It's directed by mumblecore greats, the Duplass Brothers. If you haven't seen their first hit The Puffy Chair, do yourself a favor and see it.

Cyrus is a rare blend of honesty, awkwardness, humor, and love. Please see it for your own good. I'm excited to see Jonah Hill become one of our generation's hit filmmakers. He's amazing.

Here's the list of bands/hip hop/punk pop stuff I've been bumpin' lately. Try all of these out and let me know what you think.

Oh My God

Cults- Oh My God

Saw Inception. It's a great film. Best of the year. It's a breath of fresh air, unique and smart. But it's not the masterpiece we hoped for nor does it change the game. Nolan is the best out there, but this isn't his best work.

THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO BE SPECTACULAR

It's Kind of a Funny Story

Sorry

It's been awhile since I've wrote in here. I'm just so busy with work and other shit I need to get done, which I neglect to get done.

I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday.

I had a college visit at Columbia, in which I MIGHT transfer.

Other than that, I went to Minneapolis and Chicago. I don't know what else I've done. I'll be back in full force one of these days. Maybe then I'll be out of this state of mind. Where do all the hours go? Where did my money go? Where am I trying to go?

You're not king. You haven't ruled anything.

I don't understand what the fuss about. No matter where he goes, LeBron is getting paid too much to not win a title. You're no Michael Jordan and it's been proven (to my disgust) that you're no Kobe. In fact, he's not even a Landon Donovan. Why is America wasting all my news reports on this crap when they should be talking about Narnia winning the 2014 World Cup. So mad!

THE UPSIDES

I saw the Wonder Years on April 24th in Des Moines.

They played with Set Your Goals and Comeback Kid.

It was one the best shows I've ever been to. The Wonder Years' newest release changed my life. The lyrics can never be more true.

From The Wonder Years:
More than anything else, The Upsides is a record about fighting back. I felt like the past year left me and all of my friends defeated. Our early-twenties had beaten us down. We listened to sad songs and we watched sad movies and we talked about sad shit. It was like everyone looked at the rest of their lives and decided that now was the time to start being miserable. A lot of the lyrics for this record were written on my bike while I avoided traffic and bad parts of the city. Before we actually started writing songs, I had compiled a notebook full of the lines that I pulled from the fog my breath produced on all of my freezing, snowy morning bike rides. I had given up, and this was going to be a record about just that, and then, one day, I was riding my bike down 19th Street on the way to work and from the top of Callowhill, I could see that the fountain at Logan Circle had been turned on. Something clicked in my head and I guess it was because this meant it was Spring, or maybe it was just because it reminded me of happier times, but I decided then that it wasn't okay to be this defeated at twenty-three. A few months later the band moved into the house I was living in South Philly with my girlfriend and roommate. They slept on the floor of our living room and every day we would wake up and walk down into the 15-square foot basement to write songs. We spent a very long, very hot month between May and June surviving on freezie-pops and Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee alone. Everyone, literally and figuratively poured themselves into this record as we must have lost a collective ten pounds from sweat alone. My basement still smells terrible to this day. There were a few times when we walked upstairs after an argument and I didn't think we'd ever come back down because every song was that important to every one of us. The result is a record that we're all very proud of and that I think carries a very real message. The whole world wants you to be miserable. It wants you to put your head down, sigh to yourself and give up on being happy, and I know just as well as anyone that sometimes, giving up seems like the only option, but if you take one thing from this record, I hope it's this: Don't give those mother-fuckers an inch. Stand your ground every chance you get because everybody deserves a chance to be happy.

- The Upsides

There's just too much

There's a lot of information out there. My brain can't process all of it. I really can't organize all the thoughts going through my head, and I don't know how to priortize my list so I can study one thing at a time. I just want to know it all.

Funny how I have this problem when I'm not in college. I should have went to film school. The last few nights, I've stayed awake until 8 A.M. reading spec scripts and screenwriting books. On top of that, I've been researching innovative film angles and reading on how to edit different camera shots.

I also have to fit in my daily blog reads/ movie news/ music news/ and stand-up shiz.

I'm falling behind in my booking for SUB things and different errands I keep forgetting about.

Blah. Summer isn't long enough.

Tomorrow we start test shooting for one of the short film scripts I wrote. We'll see how this goes,
Andrew
