Good bands and artists you all can listen to...

I saw the film Cyrus. It stars John C Riley and Jonah Hill. It's fantastic. It's directed by mumblecore greats, the Duplass Brothers. If you haven't seen their first hit The Puffy Chair, do yourself a favor and see it.

Cyrus is a rare blend of honesty, awkwardness, humor, and love. Please see it for your own good. I'm excited to see Jonah Hill become one of our generation's hit filmmakers. He's amazing.

Here's the list of bands/hip hop/punk pop stuff I've been bumpin' lately. Try all of these out and let me know what you think.

Oh My God

Cults- Oh My God

Saw Inception. It's a great film. Best of the year. It's a breath of fresh air, unique and smart. But it's not the masterpiece we hoped for nor does it change the game. Nolan is the best out there, but this isn't his best work.

Sorry

It's been awhile since I've wrote in here. I'm just so busy with work and other shit I need to get done, which I neglect to get done.

I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday.

I had a college visit at Columbia, in which I MIGHT transfer.

Other than that, I went to Minneapolis and Chicago. I don't know what else I've done. I'll be back in full force one of these days. Maybe then I'll be out of this state of mind. Where do all the hours go? Where did my money go? Where am I trying to go?

THE UPSIDES

I saw the Wonder Years on April 24th in Des Moines.

They played with Set Your Goals and Comeback Kid.

It was one the best shows I've ever been to. The Wonder Years' newest release changed my life. The lyrics can never be more true.

From The Wonder Years:
More than anything else, The Upsides is a record about fighting back. I felt like the past year left me and all of my friends defeated. Our early-twenties had beaten us down. We listened to sad songs and we watched sad movies and we talked about sad shit. It was like everyone looked at the rest of their lives and decided that now was the time to start being miserable. A lot of the lyrics for this record were written on my bike while I avoided traffic and bad parts of the city. Before we actually started writing songs, I had compiled a notebook full of the lines that I pulled from the fog my breath produced on all of my freezing, snowy morning bike rides. I had given up, and this was going to be a record about just that, and then, one day, I was riding my bike down 19th Street on the way to work and from the top of Callowhill, I could see that the fountain at Logan Circle had been turned on. Something clicked in my head and I guess it was because this meant it was Spring, or maybe it was just because it reminded me of happier times, but I decided then that it wasn't okay to be this defeated at twenty-three. A few months later the band moved into the house I was living in South Philly with my girlfriend and roommate. They slept on the floor of our living room and every day we would wake up and walk down into the 15-square foot basement to write songs. We spent a very long, very hot month between May and June surviving on freezie-pops and Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee alone. Everyone, literally and figuratively poured themselves into this record as we must have lost a collective ten pounds from sweat alone. My basement still smells terrible to this day. There were a few times when we walked upstairs after an argument and I didn't think we'd ever come back down because every song was that important to every one of us. The result is a record that we're all very proud of and that I think carries a very real message. The whole world wants you to be miserable. It wants you to put your head down, sigh to yourself and give up on being happy, and I know just as well as anyone that sometimes, giving up seems like the only option, but if you take one thing from this record, I hope it's this: Don't give those mother-fuckers an inch. Stand your ground every chance you get because everybody deserves a chance to be happy.

Land of Talk

This band is great.

Artist: Land of Talk
Song: May You Never

I went to Kansas City this past weekend. Second time this school year. That place is a twilight zone for beautiful women. One girl walked past me and it tickled my love reflex causing me to groan just by the sight of her. I dont believe in love at first sight but if she made me groan, there's a connection right? I was too scared to talk to her but I imagine she groaned after seeing me too. If not, love isn't real.

Wavin' Flag

I've been a K'naan fan since my Philly based friend Tyler Boeyink showed me his music. His single Wavin' Flag has been an anthem for almost every occasion, but this one is its best form. Check out this video fearturing way too many famous artists (justin beiber, my girlfriend lights, avril, etc.) giving their lending hand to Haiti.

It's crazy that its already been around three months since that earthquake. Where the hell does time go when we throw it away?

By the way, dont look at my girlfriend Lights, I'll hurt you if you try anything!

There's a phenomenon where you start trailing off your sentence...

Women could rule the world if they wanted. Not like Hitler (well, maybe some of those scalawags could...) but more like a Noble Peace Prize winner... more like a Nelson Mandela kind of way. More like the responsible kind of person.

Men do nothing but fight for their own greed. How many times do we see a wife glue together a relationship? I believe a case study of relationships and marriages will show men cannot function without their woman to keep pushing them from behind.

How does men and the world feel okay about being so disrespectful to our beautiful women in this world? How can women demean themselves in front of men? How can people sit on their couch with their bros and say "I'd gladly plow the hell out of the bitch, daaamn!" How can women wear close to nothing and fall object to a man's sexual doing?

Disgusting.

I want you to imagine a world where women wouldn't be here to grab you an extra bottle of soap when you run out in the shower, or when they aren't here to make your lonely nights feel more loved. Imagine a world where a girls couldn't walk into your home or into your car and you notice how beautiful things can be. Imagine a world where you couldnt get that lump in your throat or that butterfly in your stomach. I want you to imagine a life where you won't find a girl that you'll happily bow to their feet for. Imagine a world of shallow loneliness embedded in sexual and disrespectful cravings.

Who are you calling bitches and skanks now?

Mah band, mah band.

My pop punk band just finished up crushing the Vaudeville Mews last night opening up for Sons & Heirs and Bamboo Shoots.

Sons & Heirs played their brand new set and my ears exploded directly after they finished playing. Shortly after, I went the hospital.
Prognosis: my ears received sound waves that were too epic for it to compute. True story.

Their new music is too good.

Bamboo Shoots are on Epic Records and have toured with the likes of 3oh3! and All Time Low. Here's a picture of them jumping...

They ruled! Really nice dudes and sexy music. We even had a dance off in the middle of their set. Of course, it only consisted of 2 dudes awkwardly trying to get involved and 1 dude shamelessly doing the worm. Typical.

Here's a picture of me interviewing them...

It is what it is my friends,

December already. Sup son?

Dude, it's December and it's like 50 degrees outside.

Remember being a middle schooler and when the weather starts getting warm after winter, you'd get off the bus...take off your jacket, and play basketball in the driveway? Even if it's still like 40 degrees outside...

I almost did that today, but instead of taking off my jacket and playing basketball with my neighbors when I got off the bus.... I....

...got off the bus, took of my jacket, went inside my apartment, and... PAYED MY BILLS. Yup, I got important shit to do. Then I wasted 3 hours doing stupid shit on the internet. Like look at ninja cats. Like I said...important things.

... ... ............ ...

Here's new music for you all.

Week Off

Sorry guys, that week off really killed the vibe again. I need to find an efficient way of staying on top of the blogging game. I'll work on it, I promise you all.

Us Iowa State University students are now on Thanksgiving break. We all needed it, and it feels amazing to be home. This is where my family and best friends are. That will always make this town the most important place of my life. Earlier this week, I was reading my old posts from last year (it was crazy to think those were posted an entire YEAR ago, time is crazy), and saw how much my outlook on life has changed.

People always talk about how they haven't changed, how they can't see the difference in their life, or how "doomed" they are being stuck in their rusty unchangeable life. I used to lump myself in that dreadful list.

Reading my old entries made me realize that I have changed.

Time is a crazy thing. When we're stuck in a minute, it lasts too long. When it passes we wonder where it went. Waiting takes too long. Living doesn't last long enough.

CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA- TO BUILD A HOME

This blog wasn't as good as it should be so read my older stuff,

p.s. i'll be back later.
I promise.

LEAVES OF GRASS trailer & GREEN SCREENS music video

Life is going by too fast and sometimes I feel like I have nothing to show for all the time I spent. Horrible.

This is the new Edward Norton movie Leaves of Grass. It's about drugs. Yup.
If this is funny, it won't surprise me. If this is not funny, it won't surprise me.
The era of Hollywood movie stars is dead people. Cast unknowns in movies with big name crew members and you're golden. Or just quit and marry for money.

Also, here's the music video for Sleeping At Last's Green Screens.
EPIC and BEAUTIFUL. It makes me wanna take a bath with candles and a pretty lady. Oh Love...you so silly!

I was so busy they call me busy. BOOKING POS, KIDZ IN THE HALL, SLEEPING AT LAST?

Hey all,

Sorry for all the delays, I know all the hundreds of you that flock here have almost decided to leave. But you didn't. So cool. If you did, screw off! LITERALLY.

Anyone else think the joke phrase of "literally" has stayed passed it's welcome? I mean most times, if the wannabe comedian decides to add literally to a phrase, it's usually literal in a non literal way (if you know what I mean, making it not really literal. Not that funny. IT'S NOT FUNNY IF IT'S NOT TRUE.

Or is it?

But if it were literal, then why didn't you mean it like that in the first place? WHY ARE YOU WASTING SYLLABLES IN THIS ECONOMY? YOU KNOW YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO GET MORE! Literally.

2 friends and I have joined the Student Union Board here at Iowa State. Through that, we can book bands, comedians, and other forms of entertainment for the campus. If you'd like a show or something, shoot me an e-mail and I'll see what I can do. I'll post more on that later.

Here are the some artists Bryan, Kory, and I are going to try to book.

P.O.S.
